Siemens PCS 7 IO lists: tags, channels, and what we do not claim
By Saad, practising automation engineer · Updated 2026-09-25
How a PCS 7 or S7 I/O spreadsheet maps into SchematicForge — tag and signal type first, hardware columns if present, no Siemens block library.
What the importer uses
PCS 7 hardware exports vary. SchematicForge looks for a tag column and a signal type. Rack, slot, and channel — when present — land on the drawings and the I/O appendix.
We do not generate CFC/SFC charts or Siemens symbol libraries. The handoff is native DXF (pack) plus PDF, Loop Register, and schedules.
Prepare the workbook
Unmerge title rows, keep one header row, and keep one signal per row. If the file has a cover sheet plus an IO sheet, the importer prefers the IO sheet.
German or English headers both work if you confirm the mapping in the wizard. Unusual names are assigned by you once and remembered for that header layout.
Free preview then pack
The homepage checker needs no account. A free account saves the project and downloads the first 15 field-wired loops as a watermarked PDF.
Starter and above issue the full loop count as clean PDF and DXF. Revisions re-import from the Loop Register without buying the pack again.
PCS 7 engineer workflow, not a PCS 7 project
A PCS 7 engineer still configures CFC, hardware, and the AS in SIMATIC Manager or PCS 7. SchematicForge only turns the I/O spreadsheet into loop diagrams, a cable schedule, and termination lists so the instrumentation package matches the list the DCS team already has.
German headers (Messstelle, Signalart, Baugruppe, Kanal) map in the wizard. Rack/slot/channel fill the I/O appendix when present. Missing hardware does not block the free parse.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a Siemens-approved loop template?
No. It is a drafting accelerator from your IO list. Title block and layer names are configurable so the DXF can follow your CAD standard.
Can I keep German column headers?
Yes. Map them in the import step. The engine stores canonical fields, not the original header spelling.
