Loop diagrams: generate from an IO list vs EPLAN macros

By Saad, practising automation engineer · Updated 2026-09-25

EPLAN macros are the right tool for panel layouts and manufacturing BOMs. They are the wrong tool for re-tracing 150 field loops every time the DCS IO list moves. SchematicForge does not replace EPLAN. It generates loop diagrams, cable schedule, and termination lists from the spreadsheet, then you open the DXF in CAD or keep EPLAN for the cabinet.

What does not change

Keep EPLAN for panels. Use SchematicForge for loop sheets tied to the IO list. Engineer review still required. Free tier is a watermarked PDF of the first 15 field-wired loops; DXF is the pack.
